I COMPOST

I COMPOST is a recognition program that encourages individuals who participate in a compost program to share their story. Our goal is to create a platform that highlights individuals who compost and encourage more people to participate and manage their food scraps responsibly.

Participate by emailing a photo of yourself, along with a quote about why you compost to icompost@committogreen.com

I compost because it allows me to participate in the regeneration that occurs in Nature. At a time when we are decimating our resources and planet this is one small way to give back. I have also cut down drastically on my use of plastic bags since I have recycled the same 3 or 4 bags carting my food scraps to the green market.

I compost because...it reduces the amount of trash I create and turns a burden on the city trash system into something valuable for our food system. This is me composting with Commit to Green bags at the Mt. Pleasant Farmers' Market in Washington, DC as part of the #ZeroWasteDC program.

I feel good about not adding this compostable trash into the regular garbage stream where it would be transported to out-of- state landfills to rot in plastic garbage bags.

I cook a lot at home and for my family. And by composting the kitchen scraps it helps free up landfills therefore benefiting the environment. I feel good about not adding this compostable trash into the regular garbage stream where it would be transported to out-of- state landfills to rot in plastic garbage bags. I have a small edible garden. I enjoy the benefits of it and at the same time feel good to know that I am able to give it back to the soil by composting.
I take pride in recycling my food scraps. It makes me feel like I’m doing my part for the environment – less waste in our landfills! I compost because it benefits my garden, my community, the world. It's a great way to spend more time outdoors and connect with our food. It may be work on one hand, but it can also be a fun practice!
It is simple! The hardest part is getting it going. All you need to compost is air, water, carbon, nitrogen, space, time and dedication.
